All Members updates: 

Thank you for everyone who attended the BBQ meet and greet on September 23rd, 2019.  It was a pleasure to meet everyone.

There has been a lot of questions about the administrative duties of a member-driven Union such as PSAC555.

We have decided to post a frequently asked questions section on our website under the “ABOUT”.

If you have any other questions, concerns or complaints that you would like us to address you can do so through our website under “CONTACT US”:

We ask our members to remember that the Elected Executive Members are volunteers from the membership that has accepted the duty of representing you.

You are the Union.

Therefore, if you want to see things done differently, you need to get involved and share your suggestions with your fellow members.  If the majority of the membership agrees with your suggestions- then things will get done differently.


Bylaw and Finance Committees will be meeting in the last two weeks of October- if you want to attend these meetings- I will send out the dates and times as they are scheduled.

Save The Date:

General members meeting scheduled for December 5th, 2019 @ 3:30 pm– 5:30 pm, in UA1350.

Registration of and confirmation of delegate status is December 5th, 2019 @ 2:30 pm to 3:30 pm.  You can pre-register and confirm your delegate status anytime by emailing  Office@PSAC555.ca.

TA/RA/Invigilator Updates: 

Thank you for everyone who came to the mobilization event in Polonsky Commons on September 25, 26 & 27.  It was great seeing so many old friends and new faces.

We got several signatures on our petitions asking for TA/RA ships to be removed from the Guaranteed Funding Packages.

As long as the employer can reduce our TA/RA hours to meet minimum funding requirements- we will never see an increase in graduate student income.

We also got several signatures on our petitions asking for equal pay for TA/RA and Invigilators and several signatures on our petitions asking for equal hour limits for all Graduate and Undergraduate Student TA/RAships.

On September 12 we had a Joint Union Management Committee meeting with the employer- if you would like to see what issues are being discussed- please visit our website under bargaining units tabs Teaching/Research Assistants & Invigilators.

Sessional Instructor Updates:

We met with the employer on September 11th, 2019 with a laundry list of issues brought to the executives’ attention and we are slowly but surely resolving them. Updates to follow.

Post-Doctoral Fellow Updates:

We met with the employer on September 25th, to discuss any issues that have been brought to the executive’s attention, please visit our website under the bargaining units tabs Post-Doctoral Fellows to find out more about the JUMC discussion.

An update from your VP of Post-Doctoral Fellow Affairs:

” The month of September has been quite busy for every OntarioTech Postdoc. It has also been busy for our collective union efforts to improve the PostDoc employee experience. I am glad to have met several of the members during the September Postdoc event organized by the school of GS and Postdoctoral Studies.

In September, the salary increase of 1% we bargained for came into effect. Every Postdoc Fellow whose contract is ongoing in September received a 1% increase to his salary. If your salary did not increase accordingly in September, please contact us immediately at office@psac555.ca

Moreover, we have requested an audit of our salary payments to investigate payroll issues affecting Postdoctoral Fellows since January 2019, brought to the attention of the university by the union upon requests by an impacted member. There is a good chance that your biweekly salary payments were impacted and that you are owed a portion of the dues deducted by the university.

Dues reconciliation meeting:

The university may owe you money and will be paying it back.  We would like to meet with you to help you determine how much you are owed- so that there are no further discrepancies.

We will be meeting on October 21, 2019, in ERC1058 between 12:30 pm and 1:30 pm.

Office Hours for October:

There are office hours available in ERC1085 on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.

Downtown has office hours available on Tuesdays.

There will be no office hours from October 15th to October 17th.
